dental implant is a titanium structure surgically inserted where the root of a missing tooth or teeth would normally be located. This titanium "root" is then accepted by the bone of the jaw and fuses with the surrounding bone, thus allowing the implant to serve as a very stable structure that mimics the look and feel of a natural tooth.
Uses of dental implants:
Advantages of dental implants:
Esthetics - When a tooth is missing this can cause deterioration of jaw bone and shifting of other teeth in the mouth. When done properly, dental implants will not only correct this but are virtually indistinguishable from natural teeth in both look and feel.
Oral health - Dental implants completely integrate into the structure of your bone so they eliminate the need to alter adjacent teeth and the possibility of bone loss and gum recession that often accompanies bridges.
Reliability - When cared for correctly implants are designed to last a lifetime and most research has shown an average success rate of over 95%
What the procedure involves:
When you visit our office we will first evaluate your past
medical history as it relates to your dental care and determine
if you are eligible for dental implant treatment, and if so,
the type of implant that best suits you. Once this is complete,
an appointment will be scheduled for the implant surgery. Dr.
Prisco will then perform the oral surgery to place the titanium
implants into the jawbone. The implants will then be left undisturbed
for a period of time to allow proper healing and fusion with
the jaw bone. When it is determined the implant is ready, abutments,
or small connector posts are attached to the implant and artificial
replacement teeth are fabricated to match the shade and shape
of your natural teeth. Lastly, the new artificial tooth is placed
in the mouth and attached to the abutment of the implant. Overall,
this procedure will leave you with an esthetically pleasing,
naturally looking and feeling tooth, designed to last a lifetime.
